Main Street Affiliate
About
The City of Crisfield will apply to become a Main Street Affiliate through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Main Street Maryland program, which provides technical assistance and strategic guidance using the National Main Street Center’s Four-Point Approach—Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization—along with Maryland’s “Clean, Safe & Green” framework. The targeted district, extending from 6th Street to the Armory, currently faces vacancy rates exceeding 50%, but includes significant assets such as the Arts & Entertainment District, historic properties, and multiple City-owned redevelopment sites. Through Affiliate participation, Crisfield aims to reduce vacancies, attract new businesses, activate upper-floor housing, improve storefronts and public spaces, strengthen marketing, and position the corridor for full Main Street Maryland designation while leveraging ongoing façade, flood mitigation, and business development investments. If you are interested in more information, please contact the Main Street Committee Chair, Councilman Ivan Lankford at ilankford@crisfieldcityhall.com, or Co-Chair Councilwoman Laverne Johnson at ldjohnson.scs@gmail.com.
